I haven't ... mostly because I KNOW he probably would accomodate something for us if we asked. My thought was to gather interest first then approach suitable instructors.

Yeah, that's the right way to go about it. I am always getting the cart before the horse.

I'd be more interested in (and would pay for) something like an online class in a specific subject area. I realize there is much teaching and learning done on these forums already, but here is what could make it different from the regular forum:

- One instructor teaching their specific method... Classes wouldn't turn into extended debates/discussions over which method is better.
- The forum is kind of like a coffee shop, the "classroom" would be more focused and guided by the instructor, allowing more clear and specific instruction than you'd otherwise get out of a normal forum thread
- Instructor would be more "invested" in providing specific answers to questions, providing photos, etc...

Something like David Schramm used to offer with onlineapprentice.com would be really cool, where over a period of a year, everyone builds the same plan and he gives detailed photos of the process along the way. It looks like he hasn't been able to keep that up, but maybe he would if he were actually getting paid for it (?). Or someone else could pick up the ball.

Or it could be a shorter form course like the 6-week inlay courses mimf offered. Maybe short term classes in making bridges, or armrests, making necks, building various jigs, etc...

There are already a number of hands-on lutherie courses offered by different people across the country who are equipped and properly insured for giving such classes. I can't see how you'd get around the high costs associated with attending these classes. Also remember that if you increase the number of participants to reduce costs, you also start to limit the hands-on aspect of the class.

Hold it in Northern Ontario and I'll be there. My problem is that to fly any where costs about $1000. Someday I plan to make it to something but dropping$2000-$3000 is something I justr can't afford. Maybe someday. I love the idea of Online courses.
